The Treadmill Test (TMT), also known as a Cardiac Stress Test, is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure used to assess how well your heart performs under physical stress. At Villoo Poonawalla Memorial Hospital, we use advanced equipment and expert monitoring to evaluate heart rhythm, blood pressure, and overall cardiac function during exercise.
During a TMT, the patient walks on a treadmill while being connected to an ECG machine that records heart activity. As the test progresses, the intensity is gradually increased by adjusting the treadmill’s speed and incline. This controlled physical stress helps doctors assess:
Heart rate response to exercise
Blood pressure changes
Signs of blocked or narrowed arteries
Chest pain or irregular heart rhythms during exertion
A TMT is recommended for patients with symptoms like chest discomfort, shortness of breath, or those with risk factors for heart disease. It helps detect coronary artery disease, evaluate exercise tolerance, and plan safe cardiac rehabilitation.
